We’re all living in a time of clashing cultures, a time of ethno-religious conflicts. A war between the religions and their respective values rages through the media, ultimately leading to the question, where our roots of western culture really are.
Laicismic europe has been trying for years to cop out of this discussion...
Two Worlds:
Lower part: "Sacrum" – a citation of El Greco’s painting (the Crucified with Mother Mary, Johannes the Evangelist and angels, 1590-1600, Madrid, Museo del Pablo) from the late renaissance – shows the central aspect of Christianity – self-abandonment.
The whole setting is presented in an abstract, surreal way using display dummies in a theatrical staging.
Upper part: "Profanum" – an ordinary, self-centered consumer society without any signs of self-reflection placed in an anchorless floating void. In the front: children, being the link between the worlds, the only hope for keeping cultural values alive as generations pass by.
